Jambiani, Zanzibar, Tanzania.  Primary School Classroom and Schoolchildren.  The classroom has no furniture; students and teacher sit on the floor.  Materials on the wall show that the children are learning to read both the Arabic and the Latin alphabets.  They learn Arabic to read the Koran.  Both English and Swahili use the Latin alphabet.  English is the language of higher education in Tanzania, and of the courts.
